I wake up. Go to the bathroom. Make a cup of coffee. Open the Bible and read. Close it and leave.
What just happened there? Was there any meaning in any of that? Why do I read my Bible at all if do it mindlessly? I often tell myself that I don’t read my Bible just because I have to, but if I truly want to read it shouldn’t I pay more attention to the words, themes, and lessons?
Time for a change!
This week I sat down and read the Gospel of Mark in one sitting…well basically one sitting (I had a few coffee making and bathroom visiting intermissions). And as I read I had a focus; I was looking for something. Seeking that something specific would be revealed to me.
Leadership. A major focus of my time here in CGA is developing the leadership abilities that God has given me so I can be transformed into a leader that reflects Christ, gives him the glory, and empowers people become who God called them to be. What better place to start than to look at Jesus. I was given the task of looking in the Gospels for the characteristics that made Jesus a leader worth following.
It was such a fruitful time in the Word! I recognized the ways Christ led out of the knowledge of his true identity, his humility, service towards others, confidence, and empowerment.
God told us to seek and we will find. Seeking is not aimlessly wandering about hoping something will present itself. True seeking requires a more focused direction and purpose.
Fight complacency, give it a shot! Choose a focus, read a book (of the Bible). And if you want to, post what you learn in a comment; drop a little encouragement.
