Last year I went through the spiritual and emotional roller coaster that is training camp in preparation for the World Race. And last week I went through it again, but from a different perspective. This time around I was not a racer preparing for the race, I was a trainer preparing others for the race.
It was an exhausting 10 days walking through nearly every moment of training camp with C Squad; supporting them and challenging them while also working behind the scenes each day. It might have been more exhausting on this end of things, but I was so blessed to be part of it all.
A few days into training camp I was told that I had been accepted to not only be a trainer for C Squad , but also to be one of their Squad Leaders! That’s right, I’m going back out on the field! Myself and 3 others with be launching in January with the 31 men and women of C Squad to support them through the first five months of their World Race! I. am. pumped!
It was not easy to get to this point, though.
It has been on my heart to be a Squad Leader for some time now and there were times that I wasn’t sure it was going to happen. Things certainly did not go the way that I had them planned out in my head. God wanted to bring me through a process. And processes are hard and can really suck. But life itself is a process.
Some time ago I came to accept this fact, that life is a process. But recently I learned to take it a step further and actually embrace that process. I have seen that the process is as important as the destination or end goal, if not more so. It’s in the process that growth happens. And if there is no growth what’s the point of the destination?
Through the process of becoming a Squad Leader God brought me into a place of renewed trust in him as he taught me lessons about true humility and identity. Because of the process I more equipped for the where the Lord is taking me next as the a Squad Leader for C Squad.
Growth and learning come out of every situation, provided I have the awareness to see it and the openness to receive it.
