Fasting is a spiritual discipline that is not utilized as much as it should be these days. Fasting, when done with the right mindset, can open a space for the Lord to speak that our day to day lives do not facilitate.

Spending time in the woods hiking and camping this past week, I had 24 hours to myself to spend with the Lord. I read his word and sat in his presence. I talked to him and waited on him. And, yes, I took the opportunity to fast for majority of the day. It is easy for me to remember to take care of my physical health and feed it with the food it needs, all too easy if I'm really honest (I really love to eat). But I often neglect my spiritual health. Fasting is a strong reminder to feed my spirit with what it needs to be healthy.

I challenge you take advantage of this spiritual discipline and fast for a day or just meal; spend that time with the Lord and see what he reveals to you.
