King David was a warrior, he was a king, he was a writer. But he certainly wasn’t perfect, he also committed some pretty bad sins, namely, adultery and murder. Despite this God called him “a man after my heart.”

That statement has always blown my mind! Talk about a compliment; to have the God of the universe call you a man after his heart, wow.

It is easy to picture David as the warrior, a powerful strong man who killed “his ten thousands,” and won great victories. I often forget that he is described as a small little kid. The Bible says that he was “ruddy and handsome,” it doesn’t say that he was strong and mighty. In light of this, the idea of him facing Goliath was basically a death wish. In fact, every time he faced a lion or a bear he was walking into his death. David went willingly into each battle, willing to lay down his life for the sheep if that’s what it took. David shared this in common with Christ. Christ laid down his life for his sheep, us.

David was a man after God’s heart because he had a deep trust in the Lord, he was firm in his identity, and he went bravely into battle with knowledge of this truth despite all worldly opposition and impossibility.

We are no different than David! We have the ability to walk into every situation with the same confidence, having all trust and knowledge of our identity!
