God is a Toilet

I was sitting with the Lord this morning and I started thinking about a toilet bowl being cleaned with one of the toilet bowl brushes and some of that cleaner from one of those bottles with the funky necks so you can squirt it upwards. You know, it looks like a duck tweaking its head back a bit.

It’s really not that strange of a thing for me to think about when I’m hangin’ out with God. He really does speak to us in ways we uniquely will understand; it’s a beautiful thing.

Anyways, I proceeded to asked God what was up with that and he said “You see me as a toilet.”

“No! What? No, that’s not right, that’s irreverent. I’m sorry,” I tried to apologize.

“It’s ok, that’s what I am,” he told me.

“Huh? Okay you’re gonna have to explain this one little bit more.”

God told me than I can dump all my crap on him; he can and will take it. It doesn’t matter how messy it is or how much it smells. It doesn’t matter what it looks like or how much of it I’ve got. He can handle all of it and wants me to release any load I’ve been carrying.

But it doesn’t stop there, God will take anything I drop and flush it down into oblivion. He’ll take it and, if I let him, get rid of it. But he’s just the toilet. And toilets don’t flush themselves. I have the responsibility to push the plunger down and let him take it away.

Ever done your business and forgot to flush? (Sincere apology to anyone I have lived with, I can move pretty quick from work to play, sorry about that.) Well, in case you don’t have much experience here, it doesn’t take long for the bathroom to smell. And then it makes its way to the hallway. No bueno. It’s important to flush. The crap doesn’t completely go away unless I flush and that’s something I need to do.

Okay, all joking aside, God can handle all the crap in your life. He doesn’t care if it’s from the past or the present. He doesn’t care how messy it is. He doesn’t care if it’s a sin, a mistake, something done to you or by you. He will never judge you or turn you away. “Come to me all who are weary or heavy-laden, and I will give you rest” Jesus said. I encourage you – no, I plead you to humble yourselves, give it to God; whatever “it” is. Surrender it and let him take it away. Don’t be discouraged if you have to do it weekly or daily or even moment by moment; Satan’s a big jerk and likes to remind us of things that God has already given us victory over.

“Come to me all who are weary or heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30
